Not from me, obvs. This is from Dr Joseph Chrysostom MBBS, MS (Gen Surg), FRCSEd (pictured right), who very kindly contributed two anonymous posts to this blog comparing real vaginas with the current best facsimiles available to men and another post which compared real penises with the current best facsimiles available to women. Both posts should keep any sane person awake at night, whilst also causing us to marvel about the genius of human biology.
With a certain degree of trepidation, Dr Joseph Chrysostom has kindly agreed to make his name and image public. I am grateful.
Dr Chrysostom’s letter to government and parliament is dated 1 Sep 2025. It focuses on the lack of clinical accountability about what is happening on our shores, and reads as follows:
“Subject: The delusion of the 21st Century
I am writing this open letter to confront what I can only describe as the greatest medical and political delusion of the 21st century: the belief that a man can be turned into a woman, or a woman into a man.
This delusion has been institutionalised by the NHS – an organisation owned and operated by the UK Government – which now actively pursues the impossible. In doing so, it is inflicting irreversible damage on its own young citizens. The Government is not only complicit but is deceiving vulnerable adolescents and young adults (by allowing such surgeries), many of whom are still in crucial stages of psychological and neurological development.
The deceptions are multiple and systematic:
Cross-sex hormones – sold as “feminisation” or “masculinisation,” when in fact no dose of oestrogen can make a man a woman, and no testosterone can make a woman a man. Unless all XY chromosomes are exchanged for XX (or vice versa) – which is biologically impossible – these treatments only create dangerous long-term metabolic harms.
None of the Royal Colleges including the surgical Royal Colleges that I wrote to, nor the GMC, NHS England, DHSE, Healthcare Inspectorate Wales, the devolved Welsh Government, or the Parliamentary and Health Services Ombudsman have denied that deception is taking place. They cannot deny what is self-evident. The real problem is that none of these bodies have shown the ability and/or willingness to act. Instead, they deflect responsibility, each pointing to another, claiming the matter is outside their remit or beyond their purview. I now call upon the UK Government as well as the devolved Governments to demonstrate integrity and launch a serious fraud investigation into these surgical mutilations.
That such practices are being funded by the public purse is an outrage. If any other sector of society delivered services under false pretences in this way, it would be investigated immediately for fraud.
As a doctor with decades of NHS experience and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, I therefore put the following urgent questions to both the UK and the devolved Governments:
• Will you ban these mutilating operations immediately and open a serious fraud investigation into NHS England, NHS in the devolved regions, the Department of Health and Social Care, the gender clinics proliferating across the country, and the endocrinologists and surgeons carrying out these deceptions?
• Will you prohibit the prescription of cross-sex hormones and investigate those prescribing them under false claims of “transition,” despite knowing they cannot achieve biological change and can only cause lasting harm?
If the Government and its parliamentarians do not act, they will go down in history as having presided over the systematic medical and surgical abuse of its own vulnerable youth with a mental health condition that is described in DSM-5 psychiatry manual. Better sense must prevail before more young lives are destroyed under the weight of this 21st-century delusion.
