Over the past couple of years I’ve been corresponding with a couple of older male transsexuals. They are courteous types who have watched in horror at what they see as the politicisation of the environment around their identities. Both are post-op and have Gender Recognition Certificates. Before what Róisín Michaux calls “the great entrooning”, both felt less under scrutiny to the extent they passed and/or were tolerated by their local communities.
